My Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats are a simple and delicious breakfast to start your day. They are one of the easiest recipes to prepare – simply combine your ingredients and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, add your favourite toppings, and enjoy these easy Apple Overnight Oats – soon to become your favourite healthy breakfast!
You will love these Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats because:
- Of the minimal preparation they require- all you have to do is grate an apple, mix it with your other ingredients and pop it in the refrigerator!
- The quantities can be easily adjusted to your needs – the written recipe serves two, but can easily be halved or doubled!
- It is ideal for meal prep – the oats will last for three days in the fridge, so you can get a head start on your breakfast for the week.
- This recipe is so versatile – customise the toppings to your liking, or just enjoy it as is. Dried fruits, nuts and yoghurt are all great additions.
Ingredients in this recipe:
Please see the recipe card further along in the post for exact quantities of ingredients and the full method.
Apple – use a type of apple that you enjoy eating. My preference is for Pink Lady, Royal Gala or Red Delicious. The apple adds a delicious sweetness to the oats.
Sultanas – or raisins, add to the flavour base of our Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats.
Old Fashioned Rolled Oats – these are the best oats for this recipe. Steel-cut oats and quick-cooking oats can be used in overnight oats recipes, but may have a different ratio of liquid, and will produce a different texture.
Milk – use a milk of your preference. I like to use almond or oat milk, but soy milk works just fine as does dairy milk.
Chia seeds – helps give the oats a nice thick texture, and also add some extra fibre. Black or white chia seeds are fine to use in this recipe.
Maple syrup – for a hint of extra sweetness. You could also use honey, but I would drizzle this on top when serving instead.
Cinnamon – ground cinnamon is a spice that really works so well with apples. It adds a great depth of flavour as well as a lovely warmth to the oats. A little sprinkled on top before serving is also a nice touch!
How to Make Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats:
Please see the recipe card further along in the post for exact quantities of ingredients and the full method.
1 – Grate the apple:
In a medium bowl, finely grate the apple.
2 – Add the other ingredients to the apple:
Add the cinnamon, chia seeds, rolled oats, maple syrup, sultanas and almond milk to the apple.
3 – Combine the mixture:
Whisk or stir the mixture well to combine.
4 – Refrigerate:
Cover the bowl with clingwrap, or divide the mixture into two glasses or mason jars and cover. Refrigerate for 6 hours or overnight.
Tips for success and FAQs:
These Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats could not be more simple to prepare. As there are such few ingredients, I do recommend using the best quality available.
For the best taste and texture, enjoy them within three days.
Refrigerate your overnight oats mixture for at least 6 hours. I make mine just before bed and they’re perfect in the morning!
There are different rules regarding this, depending on where you live in the world. For Australian residents, Coeliac Australia provides a great resource on this topic. Always be sure to read the labels and consult with a health professional if you are unsure.
Serving suggestions:
One of my favourite parts of making Easy Overnight Oats, is customising the toppings!
For this recipe, I like to use a topping of Greek yoghurt, chopped almonds, some cubed fresh apple and a sprinkle of ground cinnamon.
You could also try:
- Chopped walnuts or macadamia nuts.
- Coconut yoghurt, to keep the recipe vegan.
- A drizzle of coconut cream and a sprinkle of additional cinnamon.
- Fresh or dried fruit of your choice.
I hope you enjoy these delicious Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats. You will love how easy they are to prepare – not to mention delicious! Be sure to let me know what you think in the comments below when you have given them a try!
